If you are drawn to the classical education method, you’ll want to be sure to check out Little Wonders Preschool or Young Scholars from Wisdom Wonder Project. Wisdom Wonder Project offers subscription services and unit studies for children in preschool to 2nd grade. Our family used the subscription designed for preschool to kindergarten called Little Wonders as well as Singapore Math.
Little Wonders includes downloadable curriculum for literature, art, and block play collections. They are all designed with fun classical learning through play methods of lessons. My daughter enjoyed all the hands on learning that this curriculum offered.
First, in the literature collection, students learn through activities that correlate with a specific book (not included) for each week and a poem. Children can get a deeper understanding of what is being read by creating something that goes along with that topic. For an example, after reading the book Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson we have a theme for the day… purple! Some of my favorite activities that were suggested were making a purple collage, lavender play dough, and purple snacks.
Next, in the Little Masters collection, students learn all about art. The curriculum goes through art elements, famous artists and their work, and then kids create masterpieces of their own.
In addition, the Block Play collection is hands on learning with blocks. This curriculum is so much fun! I do not have the same blocks for this but we were still able to learn and follow along with the blocks and shapes that we do have. This also has a book that we read and then create something that corresponds to the book. For an example, after reading a story about the differences of living in the country and in the city, we created a roads and buildings with the blocks. We discussed directions and I had my daughter drive throughout the town.
Lastly, in Singapore Math we watched and followed along with the Kindergarten video series. It starts with eye catching art and soft intriguing music that grabs kids attention. The teacher has a friendly personality with a gentle voice which helped make the videos a delight to watch. My daughter enjoys the videos, answering the questions, and playing with manipulatives that goes along with what’s being taught.
If you are looking for hands on and screen free learning this might be what you are looking for. We really had a great time with these teaching resources. The flexibility, options, and learning materials offered provides a encouraging and positive school experience.
