Homemade Pinata

This is pretty simple and inexpensive

Instructions

• Step 1: blow up a Balloon, tie it to hold the air and tape the knot down to make the balloon a nice round shape

  Step 2: In a bowl, add some flour and then gradually add a little bit of water and mix. keep adding water until your mixture is a nice paste. The texture should be similar to pancake batter.

  Step 3: Cut your newspaper pages into 3inch strips. They can be as long as you wish. I used about 6-12 inch long strips.

  Step 4: Place your balloon on a bowl or something to help keep it in place. Than here is the messy part! Dip the newspaper in the flour batter liquid and pull it out. While gently using your fingers to scrape the extra batter off. and place it on your balloon.

  Step 5: Repeat step 4 in a crisscross pattern until the top of the balloon is covered and Let it dry. this depends on your environment but i let mine dry for a few hours.

  Step 6: Repeat the steps 2-5 for the other half of the balloon. Than turn it over again to get a second layer on the whole balloon.

  Step 7: Add any features you want to make your creation unique. You can use thick paper or a box and shape it as you like than use masking tape to attach it onto the covered balloon. For an example, I used rolled up paper to make a unicorn horn and shaped a box to look like a unicorn nose.

  Step 8: Repeat step 3 and 4 to the new features you added. Make sure to apply your strips to the balloon at the base of the added feature to secure them together. and let dry.

  Step 9: YAY you did it! Now cut a little whole for a rope to hang and another hole about the size of a 4" square (you should be able to put your fist in it if you are tying a rope). Your balloon should pop. Put the rope in the first hole and you can tie a knot inside the piñata. Now you can fill it!

  Step 10: Tape your square whole back up with the masking tape. Now its time to decorate it. I used acrylic paint than glued on 3" x 4" strips of tissue paper. Have fun!
