DIY Tornado in a Bottle
My kids love science projects and so do I when it’s not so messy.
This was a fun and easy-to-clean-up project that we all enjoyed. This experiment also went perfectly with a book we read about natural disasters.
You’ll need:
. A bottle with a lid (empty juice or water bottle)
. Water
. 1/2 tsp Dish Soap
. Glitter
. Optional Food Coloring
How To Make It:
Step 1: Fill your bottle with water, stopping about 2 inches from the top.
Step 2: Add a couple of drops or 1/2 tsp of liquid dish soap.
Step 3: Add glitter, sparkles, beads, or food coloring if desired.
Step 4: Tighten the lid, flip upside down, and rotate in a circular motion (only one direction) at least 10 times.
Step 5: Stop and watch your tornado form!
Side note: Glitter is pretty much banned from our house because it gets everywhere! However, as long as the lid stays shut, the glitter stays nicely in the bottle and adds to the visual demonstration of the tornado.
Other fun ideas would be to draw scenery on the bottle or maybe drop in little figures and watch them spin.
Have a great time with your kiddos!
