The Giving Manger
Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.
I am so excited to introduce you to our new family advent tradition with The Giving Manger from WorthyKids!
Holidays are a very special time of the year for families and friends to get together, thank God for what he does in our lives, and make precious memories.
Unfortunately, it’s also filled with advertisements, gift lists, traffic delays, crazy shopping, and more anxiety-driven distractions that shift our focus inward. We can easily get wrapped up in thoughts about what we will wear, how we plan to decorate, what we’ll serve, how much we will spend, and more. The Giving Manger is a beautiful reminder of what’s important and it helps shift our focus back to giving instead of getting.
What’s Included
When we received the box set, it arrived in an adorable package that displays a manger, a little bundle of straw, a small baby figure that represents Jesus, and a hardcover book that sits nicely in the background. The box is sturdy and can be reused to store the set nicely year after year!
The Book
The Giving Manger is about a family that celebrates Christmas with everyone getting one special gift each year. Like most children, the kids, Ben and Anne, look forward to getting their special gift.
However, their dad tells them that this year will be different. They are starting a new about a new tradition of gifting more this year starting on December 1st.
Later, they find out that the gifting their dad was talking about was giving to others. He gave the family a manger and some straw and told them that with every good deed that they do they can place a piece of straw in the manger. He wanted them to know the love and sacrifice Jesus gave to us and how they can give back to him by loving others.
Disappointed, the kids went on with their day. After their mother started giving her time, they noticed how special the gift was. They went along and started giving where they could too.
Finally, when Christmas arrived, the dad added the carved baby Jesus to the manger. The whole family was able to see how truly special it is to give. It was the best present they could receive!
Our Thoughts
We enjoyed the heartwarming book. We already read it a couple of times and I bet I’ll read it to my kids many more times. The story and the lessons taught are beautiful!
My 6-year-old couldn’t wait to start adding straws to the manger. She wanted to retrieve things for her great grandmother, donate clothes and toys she could live without, cleaned up her room, and read a book to her sister. It was a lovely sight to see!
I love seeing the manger sitting in the living room. It’s a great reminder of Jesus and what I do for him. As Christmas approaches, I’m thinking about new ways our family can love and care for others.
The Giving Manger is a wonderful way to encourage and build a family tradition of giving! It truly is better to give than it is to receive and this set helps families share that gift.
