Simple Paper Headbands
Have fun with your kids on New Years Eve and let them create their own New Years Eve headband. These would also make great birthday crowns or just something silly to make and wear.
As I got home late on New Years Eve, ok it was 8pm but our kids are little and I was tired, I thought about what I could do to help my family celebrate New Years. I wasn’t prepared for anything and I was feeling the mom guilt pretty bad so I had to come up with something quick. I brought home a couple frozen pizzas which was pretty exciting but I wanted something entertaining. I thought, ooo we can make hats or headbands out of paper and that could be pretty simple. Than, I realized, I could use our pizza box for our headbands. Reduce, reuse, recycle… right? Yeah I know this is kind of silly and I cant believe I am even writing about this but I want other moms and dads to have lots of fun ideas for kids.
Anyway, all we had to do was cut out some simple shapes and then everyone got to decorate their very own headpiece. It was WAY more fun than I expected.
We also made some quick and easy firework rings out of pipe cleaners. I wont make a tutorial on these because you can pretty much figure it out by looking at the picture. Just wrap a few, 3-5 pieces, of 3″ pipe cleaners loosely around your finger and spread them out to look like a firework. Again, I know its silly but that’s what being a kid is about.
In conclusion, I am so glad we made our own headbands and entertainment! It ended up being a fun activity and then followed by a great countdown celebration (at 9pm hehe).
Here’s How to make your own headband:
Step 1: With construction paper or thin cardboard, cut foot long strips about 2 inches wide. You will want 2 strips per person.
Step 2: Using your strips, wrap 2 around your head to form a nice crown and tape them together. It should fit snugly but not too tight.
Step 3: Cut out a shape for your headpiece. Maybe you want it to by animal ears, star shapes, oval, or anyway you want.
Step 4: Decorate! Paint it, use markers, stamps, stickers, glitter glue 🙂 , again anyway you want. I Just did an outline of Happy New Year and let them color and add designs.
Step 5: Tape the headpiece onto the headband and wear it proudly!
