Apple Cider

Tis the season for apple and pumpkin everything!

This year our family was very fortunate to get bags full of apples from my great uncles tree. I was so excited and ready to make apple pies, crisps, and apple sauce. However, I have really been enjoying Homemade Apple Cider!

I used my juicer to juice about a 5 gallon bucket of apples for this recipe. The juice was cloudy, foamy, and pulpy but I like it that way.

If you can’t juice a bunch of apples, this recipe will work with store bought juice as well.

This is a quick recipe, but if you don’t mind waiting you could add all of the ingredients in a crock pot and let it cook slowly all day.

Besides the intoxicating smell, the oh so familiar hot apple cider just hits the spot for me. I am going to make this recipe all winter.

Apple Cider

Easy Hot Apple Cider.

Ingredients

  • 1 Gallon Apple Juice
  • 2 tsp Cloves
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg

Optional

  • Sweetener of choice
  • Orange Peel or 1/4 Cup Pineapple juice

Instructions

  • In a large pot, add all ingredients and heat until boiling.
  • Reduce to a simmer, and cook for at least 30 minutes.
  • Turn off heat and add sweeteners to taste.
  • Cool down and enjoy!

Notes

I made my recipe without any sweeteners but some apples are tart and I think most people prefer their Cider to be sweet.
I have made this recipe with an orange peel once and another time with pineapple juice to add a little tang to the cider and I really enjoyed the outcome.
Serve it Hot or Cold.
Cheers!
