Pursued to Eternity

For the last few weeks, we have been reading the book Pursued to Eternity by John Riley.
This softcover book is a fictional story about two brothers who go on an unbelievable 6-month journey together. Dr. Alan Bridges is an atheist geologist and the younger brother of Connor Bridges. Connor is a Christian, a caring biology teacher, and the author of the book detailing their adventures.
Throughout the book, he uses plenty of Biblical and scientific references to set the stage for his readers and as proof of creation. As we read along, we get a glimpse of what it was like to live in ancient times and notice how God’s hand is evident everywhere we look.
While finding evidence of creation, and seeing the gaps in the teachings of evolution, we get to see how Dr. Alan Bridges is being pursued by God and how it leads to his acceptance of Christ before he passes away.
As funny as it sounds, I forgot that this was a fictional book! The storyline and the facts used were quite convincing. I was only reminded of it being fiction when they discovered something that, to my knowledge, has never been discovered yet. I don’t wanna spoil it for you, so I’m not going to go into detail but it was quite exciting. It made me think about the people who might be getting this as a gift or passed to them. It would be nice to have a description of it being a fictional adventure with scriptures and facts on the back cover, but that’s just my opinion.
We read this book as a family and found it entertaining. It was engaging and had our family questioning and wanting to look further into the topics discussed. We liked reading the tales of dinosaur hunting, the personal lives of Egyptians during the time that Moses was alive, and seeing an unbeliever gain faith.
The author, John Riley, also has a lesson called Apologetics: Creative vs. Evolution on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. While reading this book, I wanted to learn more about the evidence of creation and I checked out his course. It is a video based class and I have been enjoying watching and learning from the videos during my free time.
I recommend this book for anyone ready to go on a great adventure with mind-boggling circumstances. Perfect for middle school-aged kids to adults, or like us, read as a family. Read more reviews from other families by clicking below!
