My daughter has been enjoying her reading lessons with Reading Kingdom. It is an online reading program for children K – 3rd Grade. It uses a phonics plus system of teaching that includes sequencing, writing, sounds, meaning, grammar, and comprehension. I love programs that use multiple teaching methods because everyone learns differently and it also keeps the material exciting.
When we first received the subscription, my daughter had to take a placement test. I was warned that it could be long and tiring for kids, but it wasn’t too bad. My daughter didn’t complain at all, but we both understood the importance of completing the test.
Then, when my daughter was placed in the appropriate reading level, she got to try the program. She loved it! She said her favorite part is the bubble popping exercise and the cute owls. By the way, I read that the illustrations can be changed for older kids. Isn’t that neat?!
Additionally, this fun reading game can be accessed on any device with an internet connection. For us, it worked perfectly on a desktop and amazon tablet. Although, when we tried using the game on my iPhone, the keyboard wasn’t showing up. It could have been an issue with my phone.
My final thoughts on Reading kingdom is that it’s a great way to fit a reading curriculum in a busy schedule. When I ask my daughter to do her reading class, as I like to call it, she doesn’t argue. She is more than happy to play the game. At first, typing out a word was frustrating for her. Now she has the hang of it and rarely needs my help. So there is real progress being made.

My seven year old son also had to get used to typing the words – CORRECTLY! There was a learning curve with using the Shift key and space bar, but I am so glad he is learning how to use a keyboard.
