Salt Dough Ornaments

We love making Christmas crafts, personalized gifts, and handmade Keepsakes!

These Salt Dough Ornaments are definitely one of our favorite holiday traditions!

Especially while our kids are still little enough to make hand and footprint art. These ornaments are all the more special when we can treasure the cute little hands for years to come ❤️

Not only do we have a blast letting our creativity flow, but we are also making memories, building relationships, and learning how to be cheerful givers.

All you need is Flour, Salt, and water.

Then, seal them up with Mod Podge (affiliate link here, I may get a tiny portion through this link.)

Here are some of our ornaments:

We have a camel, Jesus in a manger, Rudolph, a candle, a Christmas tree, a snowman, the Grinch, a Cardinal bird, and a candy cane.

Materials

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Salt
  • 1 Cup Water

Optional

  • Mod Podge Sealer

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, fold in all the ingredients.
  • Roll out your dough on a floured surface, silicone baking mat, or wax paper to your desired thickness. We kept ours at about 1/4-1/2 of an inch.
  • Preheat oven to 200°.
  • With cookie cutters, stencils, or hands, cut out your ornaments.
  • Using a straw or rounded object such as a pen, poke a hole in each ornament. *This will be used to tie a string for hanging.
  • Place completed ornaments on a cookie sheet and bake 2-3 hours or firm to the touch. This will vary depending on the size and thickness of your pieces.
  • Remove from oven and decorate as desired!
  • After decorating your ornaments, paint on Mod Podge to seal and help preserve your work.
  • Tie a string or hook to your ornaments and enjoy your masterpieces!

It brings so much joy to my heart when I can give others a gift made with love. However, when my children participate and get to experience the joy of giving, it’s even more heartwarming.

These are so much fun, I hope you have a wonderful time making them and have a very Merry Christmas!
