Buck Making Cents and Baby Buck How Much am I … from Buck Academy are wonderful books that make teaching money lessons to kids easy!
The BUCK Academy books are written by Dustin Goss and illustrated by his wife Febyolla Goss. Together, they created these books to introduce and teach children about the currency used in the United States.
Buck Making Cents
Buck Making Cents is a hardcover book with beautifully colored and foiled images throughout. It introduces the main character, “Buck” and his friends the coins.
Each coin is thoroughly explained with characteristics, facts, and even a little history. After kids get to know the coins, they are taught how many of each coin it takes to make up the dollar bill.
While reading the book, I had clean coins and a dollar bill handy to use as an example. This way my kids could look at the money and feel the weight and texture of each one.
Along with the book we used and counted each type of coin up to $1.00! Yep, 100 pennies, twenty nickels, ten dimes, and four quarters all neatly stacked to show the quantities. This was a lengthy math class for us, but well worth the time spent!
My 6-year-old learned so much about our currency. She was able to familiarize herself with each coin’s values, look, and feel with this book. I have tried many times to teach values and coin counting but nothing clicked for her until we read Buck Making Cents!
Buck How Much am I …
My 2-year-old was so happy that she was able to see the characters and participate in our studies with a book that was made for her age.
Baby Buck How Much am I … is a cute board book for children 0-4 years old. It has all the coins and “Buck” the dollar bill, illustrated with exciting flaps that say, “How much am I?”. Not only did my 2-year-old like this book, but her older sister also loved reading it to her and used it as a quick review of what she learned.
These adorable and informative books are the best way I have found to teach about our currency and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to teach their kids about money, but you don’t have to take it from me read more reviews from other families by clicking below!
