memoria math

I have heard great things about Memoria Press so I was happy that we got the opportunity to try the Memoria Math Challenge.

The set includes 3 student workbooks (levels A, B, and C) and 3 corresponding books for the teacher with answer keys.

The Memoria Math Challenge books are suitable for kids from kindergarten to 2nd grade. They help students master basic addition and subtraction problems through repetition.

student book

The Level A workbook starts with number dictation, where the parent or teacher says a number out loud and the student writes it down. Students also have to write down which numbers come before and after a given number, counting dots, number lines, and addition or subtraction up to 7.

The Level B workbook starts with addition and subtraction math drills. It begins with 25 math problems and gradually increases to 200 problems with sums of up to 10.

The Level C workbook starts with addition and subtraction math drills of 50 problems. It gradually increases to 200 problems with sums of up to 18.

The teacher key books are handy to grade the drills quickly and easily!

When we received The Memoria Math Challenge, I looked through the workbooks and thought they were way too easy for my 1st grader. I didn’t think my daughter would benefit from practicing math problems she already knew, but I was wrong!

working on a sheet

After completing a few pages from Level A, I realized that although my daughter could answer the questions correctly, she still had to count with her fingers or use an abacus to get her answers.

I quickly discovered how helpful these workbooks are and why the daily math drills are so important!

We continue to complete a math drill every day as a supplement. I time and score each drill. I think timing the drills help my 1st grader get used to timed tests and gives her a reasonable goal to achieve. She actively tries to beat her previous time and is learning to memorize the addition and subtraction math facts. As a bonus, she is also getting lots of practice writing numbers correctly!

I didn’t know how much we needed this until we tried it out! My daughter is getting quicker and better at answering addition and subtraction problems everyday.

If you have a student who is working on adding or subtracting, I highly suggest adding these math drills to your lessons!
