Art of the Ancients

ARTistic Pursuits offers homeschooling families amazing art curriculum in a variety of topics, one of which is their Art of the Ancients, Vol. 2 program.

We received a physical book that includes DVD and Blu-ray videos, as well as the online streaming version of the class.

There are a total of 18 art projects in this curriculum. 12 projects are taught in the text and 6 through the video lessons. We chose to complete our projects together as a family.

It was fun to see each other’s creativity and to spend this time together. We used this curriculum for our homeschooling art class and completed at least one project per week.

In the textbook, the projects start with a fantastic cultural or art history lesson. These lessons are thorough but short and relatable to kids.

Then, students get to see an art example from the topic discussed. The examples are often famous or well-known artwork. We have seen examples of artistic designs from statues, cave art, mosaics, and more.

Lastly, the textbook lessons include questions and an art assignment. The questions help the students think more about the art piece and its origin. When ready, students make their project following the instructions and examples from the lesson.

In the video lessons, students get to see their project and follow along as an example is being made. We liked to listen to the instructions and pause the video as needed while we completed our projects. This method has more of an in-person instructor-led feel to it.

I like how this curriculum offers a variety of art lessons using different types of art mediums and different methods of delivering the art instructions.

ARTistic Pursuits Volumes 1-8 are recommended for K-3rd grade, but from my experience, I think the Art of the Ancients, Vol. 2 is suitable for all ages. However, if you have an older student, you may want to consider the more advanced art lessons from their Art Core Courses.

ARTistic Pursuits is a wonderful art resource for homeschoolers of all ages. Be sure to more reviews from other homeschooling families to see other volumes, courses, and artwork below!

Have a wonderful day!
