Recently, my daughter has been working on reading comprehension with the MaxScholar Orton-Gillingham Software from MaxScholar.

This is an online subscription that helps teach students how to read and comprehend what they are reading. I love this type of multi-sensory teaching! It is so helpful for all kids no matter what their preferred learning style is.

In the teachers dashboard, I am able to set up students and classes. I can change settings, login information and the content available to the student. I found viewing the student progress and generating reports was very user friendly. I really liked being able to modify where the student starts and what categories they are able to use.

At first, my daughter worked through a placement test for the Pre-K Phonics program. I thought the test was pretty long. However, I am sure that was because she was already familiar with letters and their sounds. Meaning, the test continued on until it found an incorrect answer. I realized I should have started her in the kindergarten program.

In the placement test, she went through consonants and vowels. Next, identifying each letter of the alphabet by their shapes and sounds. Then, she went through blends of letters that make up words. Finally, she started working on digraphs.

At that point, I went in the teacher dashboard and opted out of the placement test (she was at the end anyway) and put her in the Digraphs Module. Here, she was able to try out a few learning games.

They worked flawlessly! We were very pleased to find that they were perfect for her reading, writing and learning level. She was able to practice sounds, forming words, memorization, and writing. I am very happy with this program and we will continue to explore what it has to offer!
